ACS GCI Oilfield Chemistry Roundtable Research Grant
Grant at a Glance
Purpose
This award will provide funding to institutions of higher education to address key chemistry and engineering research challenges in the oil & gas industry through green chemistry and/or green engineering.
Description
The ACS Green Chemistry Institute (GCI) Oilfield Chemistry Roundtable (OCR) is a collaboration between the ACS Green Chemistry Institute庐 and oil and gas companies to advance green chemistry and engineering in their industry. The OCR is a science-focused forum that provides member companies a collective platform to prioritize research needs, inform the research agenda, and leverage resources towards the design and implementation of green chemistry and engineering tools specific to the industry.
An open call for proposals for one (1) research grant is being made. This grant provides $135,000 for a 12-month research commitment.听 Proposals can be on any green chemistry/engineering research direction of relevance to the oil & gas industry. Interested Principal Investigators (PIs) are required to provide a written proposal describing the investigator鈥檚 capability to carry out the ACS GCI ORC proposed research.
The deadline for receipt of proposals is 30 June 2025 at 5 p.m. EDT.听 Proposals must be received by the deadline to be considered.听 Submissions must be a single PDF file submitted to gciroundtables@acs.org with the subject headline GCI OCR Proposal Submission.听
ACS GCI OCR will notify the selected PI by 30 September 2025.听 The grant funding will be dispersed to the selected PI鈥檚 institution in FY2025. It is expected that research will commence in the PI鈥檚 laboratory by 1 January 2026 and last approximately 12 months.听
Deadline
5pm EDT, June 30, 2025
Requirements for Submission
Proposals will be accepted from public and private institutions of higher education. The grant is not limited to institutions in the United States. Proposals must be submitted through the appropriate institutional office for external funding.听 For international submissions, if there is no comparable office, submit a pdf of a letter signed by an appropriate university official recognizing the terms of the grant. This grant is seen as a seed grant and PIs are encouraged to apply for additional money from local/regional/national funders.听
Funding Criteria
Proposals will be reviewed by the member companies of the ACS GCI OCR, and recommendations for funding will be based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of the proposed research to green chemistry and/or green engineering to the oil & gas industry
- Novelty, overall quality, significance and scientific merit of the research
- Likelihood the proposed research can be translated to industry
- Research track record of the applicant
Budget Considerations
The sum is capped at $135,000. The grant supports the salary and benefits of trainees (undergraduate and graduate students, and/or postdoctoral fellows). Laboratory supplies and instrument use charges are supported.听No overhead cost may be charged, which includes secretarial and/or administrative salaries. Funds may not be used to support travel, equipment purchase or repair, PI and co-PI salary supplements, laboratory technicians, contractors, consultants, or visiting faculty.
Reporting Requirements听
- Progress reports are due on a quarterly basis from initiation of research and discussed in arranged monthly teleconferences.听
- Reports are to include research milestones/significant outcomes, summary of progress to date noting any deviations from the proposal, and research plans for upcoming months.听
- A final comprehensive report is due one month after the end of the grant period.听
- Reports must be submitted as a PDF document electronically to gciroundtables@acs.org. Reports will be shared with the member companies of the ACS GCI OCR. In addition, the content of the report will be targeted for publication in a peer-reviewed technical journal. The paper will be co-authored by the principal investigator and student (s) performing the work with the guidance of member companies of the ACS GCI OCR.听
Intellectual Property, Publication Acknowledgement, and Terms of the Grant听
- The primary purpose of this grant is the public dissemination of research through publication.听听
- Every patent, United States or foreign, that results from research funded (in part or in its entirety) by the ACS GCI OCR Research Grant shall be immediately dedicated to the public, royalty free.听听
- Publication of results is expected within 6 months of work completion.听
- Each publication prepared in connection with the ACS GCI OCR Research Grant shall make acknowledgement in the following manner: 鈥淭his manuscript was developed with the support of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 Green Chemistry Institute Oilfield Chemistry Roundtable. The ACS GCI is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to catalyze the implementation of innovative approaches to chemistry and engineering that enable sustainable development across the globe. The ACS GCI Oilfield Chemistry Roundtable is composed of leading companies in the Oilfield Chemistry value chain and was established to encourage innovation while catalyzing the integration of green chemistry and green engineering in the industry. The activities of the Roundtable reflect its members鈥 shared belief that the pursuit of green chemistry and engineering is imperative for business and environmental sustainability.鈥澨
- Acceptance of a Roundtable Grant will be conditional upon agreement by the grantee institution that in the event the PI is unable for any reason to conduct the research proposed, the funds, if previously paid by the Roundtable, shall, upon demand, be returned in full to the AS GCI OCR, and further, that in the event the PI is unable for any reason to continue with the research after it has commenced, this grant shall be terminated forthwith and the unexpended and unencumbered balance of any funds theretofore advanced shall be returned to the Roundtable.听
- The grantee institution, by acceptance of this grant, provides assurance that support normally provided by the institution for research of the faculty member will not be diminished.听
- Applicants may have only one research grant with the ACS GCI OCR at a time. To close a grant, the ACS GCI OCR must receive and approve the required reports.听
