When changes take place, they usually result in advantages for some and disadvantages for others versus the status quo.听However, typically these are not just by random chance.听Changes favor those who聽are able to聽anticipate them, think ahead, and take advantage of the new situation.听When one聽is able to聽do that, changes become an exciting opportunity rather than something to be avoided, minimized, or even dreaded.
I recommend a simple, 3-step聽model for dealing聽effectively聽with change that I call the 鈥渢hree E鈥檚鈥�:聽Expect, Embrace, and Engage.听
We should聽expect聽change rather than avoiding or denying it.听Change favors those who anticipate it, think ahead about it,聽and prepare for it.听Always be on the lookout for the next changes.
We should聽embrace聽changes proactively with a positive attitude; become an advocate for change rather than a resistor.听Remember that change is essential for healthy growth and improvement of individuals and organizations.听
Finally, as changes begin to occur,聽engage聽early; be an early, enthusiastic, adopter, not a late reluctant adopter.听The former聽are聽typically among those who are most advantaged by change.听
