What is the one essential piece of personal tech you always travel with?

My mobile phone with international calling and data enabled.

Window or aisle?

On short haul flights, I prefer aisle. On long haul flights I prefer bulkhead seats over widow or aisle.

Where would your dream business trip take you? What appeals to you about this destination?

Someplace new. I really enjoying eating whatever the local cuisine is and meeting authentic people and cultures when I travel.

How do you pass the time while flying?

I watch movies and sleep. As I've gotten older jet lag has really become an issue, so sleeping is really important

Favorite ACS meeting site?

In person meetings are the best. I guess I prefer sites with the hotels and the conference center all close by so that overlapping meetings aren't as much of a concern. San Diego and New Orleans are always good.

What do you do to alleviate jet lag?

Go to sleep based on the time zone you're in. Force yourself to stay asleep with supplements or prescriptions if necessary. 

Was there a business trip you have taken that went particularly badly? What happened?

Years ago, I was hoping to take a shower and change for a meeting after I arrived, but my flight was delayed, and my luggage didn't arrive when I touched down. I had to go to a business meeting with shorts and a tee-shirt and sandals. I was so embarrassed.

Your best business travel tip for readers of ACS Industry Matters?

Be prepared, and this is especially true considering Covid. Know the rules and documents you need and have them ready both electronically and printed. It will save you a bunch of hassle. Also, if traveling internationally, try to learn the following phrases in the language of your host country: Please; Thank You; Hello; Goodbye; Yes; No; Do you speak English?; Numbers 1 through 10.
