Loperamide, or Imodium, is a piperidine derivative that alleviates diarrhea symptoms because it is an opioid, like morphine and methadone. Unlike other opioids, very little is absorbed by the body and brain鈥攊nstead it directly acts on the large intestines to slow the journey of feces.
