

All four stereoisomers of whiskey lactone, or 尾-methyl-纬-octalactone, are found in nature鈥攕pecifically, in oak wood used to make barrels for aging whiskeys, wines, and brandies. The (+)-trans聽isomer is shown. Recently, whiskey lactone was聽聽in grape-based brandies such as Cognac and Armagnac.
