Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1, 2008 â€� Marinda Li Wu, Ph.D., a chemist and founder and president of Science is Fun! in Orinda, Calif., has been re-elected to the board of directors of the American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø, the world’s largest scientific society. Her second three-year term begins Jan. 1, 2009 as director-at-large.

Wu received her B.S. from Ohio State University in 1971 and her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1976. She and her husband, Norm, live in Orinda.

Wu was cofounder and president of Atometrix; served in R&D/marketing for March Instruments Inc.; worked in the University of California, Berkeley, Science Education for Public Understanding Program, and at the Orinda Community Center.

An ACS member since 1970, Wu has served on or chaired more than a dozen national Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø committees and task forces. She also has been active at the local level, where she has chaired and worked on numerous meetings and committees and served as National Chemistry Week coordinator for the Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø’s California Local Section.

“The global challenges facing us are unprecedented, and most, if not all, of these challenges will require fundamental chemical research to resolve them,� Wu said. “Fortunately, chemists and chemical engineers are up to this daunting task. The ACS and its members are at forefront of these efforts, seeking innovative solutions that will improve people’s lives through the transforming power of chemistry and help us create a sustainable future.�
