Colorado State University vice provost elected to board of world鈥檚 largest scientific society
WASHINGTON, Dec. 3, 2009 鈥� Peter K. Dorhout, Ph.D., vice provost for graduate affairs and assistant vice president for research at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网, the world鈥檚 largest scientific society. He will begin a three-year term Jan.1, 2010, as District V Director, representing nearly 30,000 members in the Great Plains region of the United States.
鈥淒iversity of thought leads directly to innovation, and chemists are working globally to innovate and step into great opportunities,鈥� Dorhout said. 鈥淚 want to move forward 鈥� together with ACS members, local sections, and divisions 鈥� to meet our overall goal, which is to improve people鈥檚 lives through the transforming power of chemistry.鈥�
An ACS member since 1985, Dorhout has served on and led numerous ACS national committees and task forces and has been active at the local level, serving as a councilor for the Colorado Local Section since 2001. Dorhout received his B.S. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1985 and his Ph.D. in 1989 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
