St. John鈥檚 University chemistry professor elected to board of world鈥檚 largest scientific society
WASHINGTON, Dec. 3, 2009 鈥� Neil D. Jespersen, Ph.D., professor of chemistry at St. John鈥檚 University in New York, residing in Port Washington, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网, the world鈥檚 largest scientific society. He will begin a three-year term Jan.1, 2010, as director-at-large.
鈥淭here is no question that ACS is the leader in many areas of chemistry,鈥� Jespersen said. 鈥淭he 中国365bet中文官网 publishes the most respected journals, it has the best database search engines, and its volunteer organization is unmatched in the international arena. A global ACS must balance these assets with international interests and work with other societies to promote chemistry as a means to improve people鈥檚 lives and solve the many global challenges confronting us.鈥�
An ACS member since 1969, Jespersen has served on numerous ACS national committees and task forces and has been active at the local level, serving as a councilor for the New York Section since 1991. Jespersen received his B.S. from Washington & Lee University in 1967. He received his Ph.D. in 1971 from Pennsylvania State University.
