Media, small businesses invited to ACS Webinar on consulting practices in chemistry
WASHINGTON, April 22, 2010 â€� News media, scientists and others interested in finance, entrepreneurships and the chemical sciences are invited to join an American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø (ACS) Small & Medium Business Webinar on how to run a successful chemistry consulting practice.
Scheduled for Thursday, April 29, 2 � 3 p.m. EDT, the free Webinar, “Success Factors for a Consulting Practice in Chemistry,� will feature William Golton, Ph.D., Vice President (ret..) of The CECON Group, and a founder and the first chair of the Chemical Consultants Network.
Among the topics Golton will cover are:
- What chemical consultants do and who hires chemical consultants
- Do you have the skills? Defining your expertise
- Building your rÉsumÉs and marketing your services
- Can you sustain your business? Fees and other financial implications
- The hidden factor –� Legal and tax considerations every consultant should know.
The Small & Medium Business series, part of the ACS Webinars program, features industry experts and luminaries that address business topics on issues faced by scientists, entrepreneurs, and executives in small/med companies. There will be a 30-minute presentation by Golton followed by a Q & A session.
News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge, but must in advance.
Golton retired from DuPont in 1994, prior to becoming a successful consultant. While at DuPont, he managed a large analytical and physical measurement group. He also started and managed the quality program for a $2 billion business. Later, Golton moved to the pharmaceutical business to run a highly visible corporate LIMS project. After DuPont, he joined The CECON Group, a broker for independent consultants in science and engineering, where he recently retired as Vice President of the company. He is a founder and the first chair of the Chemical Consultants Network, a volunteer organization supported by the Philadelphia Section of ACS, and by American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Golton holds a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry.
