ACS Webinars� focus on year-end updates of the chemical industry and the economy

WASHINGTON, Dec. 13, 2010 â€� News media and others interested in the chemical sciences are invited to join the next in a series of American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø (ACS) Webinarsâ„� focusing on year- end updates of the chemical industry and the economy.

Scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16, from 2 � 3 p.m. EST, the free ACS Webinar� features Paul Hodges, chairman of International eChem, and author of ICIS ‘Chemicals and the Economy� blog. This event will be moderated by William F. Carroll, Jr., Ph.D., vice president, Chlorovinyl Issues for OxyChem.

ACS Webinars� connect you with experts and global thought leaders in the chemical sciences, management and business to address current topics of interest to scientific and engineering professionals. Each webinar includes a short presentation followed by a question and answer session. News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge but must in advance.

Participants will learn:

  • Recap of the 2010 economic trends â€� what to expect from the chemical industry in 2011
  • The new austerity â€� what happens now that government stimulus is ending
  • The likelihood of the economy entering full recovery mode or facing a ‘double-dipâ€� downturn

Paul Hodges is chairman of International eChem (IeC). Founded in 2001, IeC is a commercial adviser to the global chemical industry and its investment community. Hodges also serves as non-executive chairman of a fast-growing technology spin-out from Heriot Watt University, Scotland.

William F. Carroll, Jr., Ph.D., is vice president, Chlorovinyl Issues for OxyChem, and adjunct professor of chemistry at Indiana University. Carroll is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø and a past president (2005) of ACS. He is a fellow of the Royal Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø of Chemistry, and a chair or member of committees for the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences.
