Special News Media Briefing & Reception During American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø National Meeting

BOSTON, July 26, 2010 � What’s a baseball game or a football game or a rock concert without a smorgasbord of food and beverages? Today’s stadiums offer a staggering array of food from appetizers to desserts. But three staples still bring out the crowds: hot dogs, popcorn and beer.

A special news media briefing and reception will focus on that topic during the (ACS) , which be held here from Aug. 22-26. The event will feature two world-renowned food chemists –� Sara J. Risch, Ph.D., and Shirley Corriher. Their topic: The Chemistry of Stadium Foods.

Hosted by the ACS Office of Public Affairs, the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 at , 1265 Boylston St., next to Fenway Park. Remy is the popular announcer for the Boston Red Sox. News media and guests can enjoy an open bar and food aplenty while getting the scoop on Fenway Franks, Dodger Dogs, ballpark popcorn, beer, and much more. Risch is the founder and principal in the food consulting firm Science by Design. Corrhier is an award winning cookbook author whose most recent book is Bakewise: The Hows and Whys of Successful Baking.

More than 8,000 reports on new advances in medicine, health, energy, environment, and other scientific disciplines that involve chemistry will be presented during the ACS National Meeting. The ACS Press Center will open at 8 a.m. Aug. 21 in Room 152 in the . It will host daily press conferences starting on Aug. 22 and a news media workroom fully staffed to assist in arranging interviews. The Press Center will have wireless Internet access, telephones, Skype access, computers, photocopy and fax machines, and refreshments. Free news media for the meeting is still open.

Embargoed copies of press releases, non-technical summaries of newsworthy presentations, and a press conference schedule will be available in August. Reporters planning to cover the meeting from their home bases will have access to the press conferences over the Internet in ACS� popular “� format.
