WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2012 � As climate change impacts and alters the Arctic environment, many nations look to the region with renewed interest.
In recent summers, Arctic ice has been shrinking at an even greater pace than was estimated, which is creating a sense of urgency over issues such as access to shipping lanes, oil and gas exploration, impact to indigenous populations and scientific investigation. The collision of geopolitical, environmental and legal implications of a changing Arctic will be discussed at this session.
