Occidental executive re-elected chair of the Board of the Directors of world鈥檚 largest scientific society
WASHINGTON鈥� William F. Carroll, Jr., Ph.D., a vice president at Occidental Chemical Corp. in Dallas, Texas, has been re-elected chair of the Board of Directors of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) , the world鈥檚 largest scientific society. He also serves as a director-at-large of the Board.
In addition to his senior management position at Occidental, Carroll is an adjunct industrial professor of chemistry at Indiana University, Bloomington. Carroll received his B.A. in chemistry and physics from DePauw University in 1973, his M.S. in organic chemistry from Tulane University in 1975 and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Indiana University in 1978.

Carroll believes that the greatest challenge facing ACS is the health of the chemistry enterprise and those who work in it. 鈥淓mployment in chemistry is top of mind for everyone. The enterprise has reengineered in the past three years, leaving many chemists behind, and the pace of change is breathtaking,鈥� said Carroll. To address the issues, he is committed to improving career tools for chemists, advocating on behalf of chemistry to the public and policymakers and keeping ACS the premier source of science information for all who work in the field.
An ACS member since 1974, Carroll has served on and chaired numerous committees and task forces, including those focusing on budget and finance, international activities and public affairs and public relations. In industry, his responsibilities have included combustion science, plastics recycling and chemistry and the environment.
He resides in Dallas with his wife, Mary.
