Boston children to conduct chemistry activities during chemists� national meeting outreach event
WASHINGTON, August 6, 2015 â€� Kids and families can learn more about the fascinating world of chemistry through hands-on, age-appropriate activities at the Children’s Creativity Museum on Aug. 15, 2015. Members of the American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙ꿉۪s (ACSâ€�) local sections will lead the activities.
The Presidential Outreach Event, “Exploring Our World through Chemistry,� will include eight tables of hands-on activities:
- Floating Letters � Using chemistry, explore the properties of M&M © and Skittles © candies and determine how these candies we love melt in your mouth and not in your hands.
- Iron for Breakfast � Using a strong magnet, extract iron (an essential nutrient) from breakfast cereal. Kids and parents alike are amazed at the properties of this element.
- Pencil Electrolysis -- Using the graphite in pencils, conduct electricity and split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. This hands-on, color-coded reaction is easily seen.
