ACS Publications introduces new mobile delivery capabilities that expand access to published research
WASHINGTON, May 27, 2015 鈥 The Publications Division of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) has introduced ACS2Go, a new mobile content delivery capability that enriches the reading and browsing experience for global readers of the 中国365bet中文官网鈥檚 portfolio of 47 preeminent peer-reviewed research journals.
Mobile pairing technology provides authorized users from subscribing institutions with on-the-go access to the entire content of the ACS Publications Web platform. That includes more than 1 million scientific journal articles, along with a diverse collection of ACS eBooks, C&EN Archives and the ACS Style Guide, all via a mobile-optimized interface. ACS2Go can be accessed at on a tablet or smartphone.
The key functionality of ACS2Go is pairing authentication for users affiliated with institutions that subscribe to various ACS Publications. Readers have the option to streamline the authentication process by pairing their smartphones or tablets, enabling secure and convenient access to ACS journals for a 120-day period. This feature gives researchers the ability to access and read any subscription-based content when away from their employing institutions without the need for an additional log-in step.
Other features of ACS2Go include compatibility with gestural commands to swipe and advance between articles and issues, and configurability suited to the research interests and reading habits of the reader. ACS2Go has full tablet support with the ability to navigate magazine-style presentation of journal tables of contents and an intuitive article layout with quick access to figures, references, supporting information files and entire full-text PDF documents. Compatible with devices running iOS, Android and Blackberry, ACS2Go complements the Publication Division鈥檚 award-winning mobile application ACS Mobile that was first introduced in 2010.
鈥淲e have witnessed a steady and significant increase in visits to the Web Editions of ACS Journals that originate from smartphones and tablets,鈥 says Jonathan Morgan, director of Digital Strategy for ACS Publications. 鈥淣ow exceeding over half a million mobile user visits each month, that traffic underscores the importance of providing an optimized experience for busy users, both to serve their research information needs and to provide them with seamless access beyond the confines of their laboratory, office or physical campus environments.
鈥淲e view ACS2Go as reinforcing ACS Publications鈥 leadership position in mobile design, development and delivery. We expect these mobile delivery enhancements will be very well received by our many institutional customers worldwide, who seek to provide ever more flexible research information solutions for the busy and far-flung science professionals they serve,鈥 says Morgan.
