American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 names Marc A. Hillmyer new editor-in-chief of Macromolecules
WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2017 鈥 The American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) announced today that Marc A. Hillmyer, Ph.D., Presidential McKnight endowed chair and professor of chemistry at the University of Minnesota, has been appointed the new editor-in-chief of Macromolecules. Hillmyer previously served as an associate editor of the journal for 10 years; he will succeed current editor-in-chief Timothy P. Lodge, Ph.D., starting in January 2018.
Hillmyer received his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Florida in 1989 and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 1994. After completing his postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota鈥檚 department of chemical engineering and materials science, he joined the chemistry faculty at Minnesota in 1997. He leads a research group focused on the design, synthesis, characterization and applications of advanced macromolecular materials. In addition to his teaching and research roles, Hillmyer also serves as the director of the Center for Sustainable Polymers at the University of Minnesota and is finishing his term as the 2017 chair of the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry (POLY).
"I am both honored and thrilled to take on the role of editor-in-chief. Macromolecules has a long history of being at the top of the polymer science publication world, and I intend to work diligently to both solidify that standing and take the journal to new heights,鈥 says Hillmyer. 鈥淲ith support from ACS, an outstanding group of associate editors and the exemplary leadership from Tim Lodge, I am starting from an incredibly strong foundation.鈥
Lodge has served as the editor-in-chief of Macromolecules for 17 years. He notes that his tenure has been marked by an increasingly global publishing landscape, with technological improvements greatly accelerating the pace of publication. 鈥淪ubmissions to Macromolecules come from around the world and increasingly from Asia,鈥 says Lodge. 鈥淚 am proud to have appointed a truly global team of associate editors based in China, Japan, Korea, France and Germany.鈥
Macromolecules publishes original research on all fundamental aspects of macromolecular science including synthesis, polymerization mechanisms and kinetics, chemical modification, physical chemistry, and properties of organic, inorganic and naturally occurring polymers. The published research showcases innovative concepts, experimental methods/observations and theoretical approaches in macromolecular science. The journal鈥檚 high quality is demonstrated by its Impact Factor of 5.8, making it a leading publication in the field of materials science and engineering.
鈥淚 am delighted that ACS Publications has selected my colleague, Professor Marc Hillmyer, to be the next editor-in-chief,鈥 says Lodge. 鈥淗e will uphold the high scientific standards of the acknowledged world-leading journal in polymer science while no doubt introducing new features and services to broaden the appeal of Macromolecules.鈥
鈥淲ith his decade-long service to the journal as an associate editor, Professor Hillmyer has been committed to the success and excellence of Macromolecules," says James Milne, Ph.D., senior vice president, ACS Publications Journals Publishing Group. 鈥淗is broad scientific expertise in polymer science, significant editorial experience and progressive vision will ensure Macromolecules continues to be considered amongst the most influential journals in its field.鈥
