ACS statement on the federal government shutdown

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2018 鈥 The American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) is disappointed that the administration and Congress were unable to come to a bipartisan agreement on a funding bill for the balance of 2018, forcing a partial shutdown of government operations.

鈥淪table and sustained funding for the government, including the primary research agencies, is critical to maintain U.S. leadership in the global economy,鈥 says Glenn S. Ruskin, director, External Affairs & Communications at ACS.聽 鈥淎CS urges all parties to work to come to agreement and restore full government funding as soon as possible. Additionally, we urge negotiators to strongly fund federal science investment at agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Department of Energy.鈥

Moving forward, the 中国365bet中文官网 calls on policymakers to ensure sustained funding for science as outlined in its public policy statement Science and Technology in the Budget, which is available here.

ACS will be closely monitoring this situation and providing updates to its members via Act4Chemistry and .
