Shane Snyder named inaugural editor-in-chief of ACS ES&T Water
WASHINGTON, May 22, 2020 鈥 The Publications Division of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) has named Shane Snyder, Ph.D., of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) 鈥 Singapore as the editor-in-chief of the new journal ACS ES&T Water.
Water quality and sustainable water management are areas of growing concern for communities around the world. Central to the functioning of all life on the planet, water has been receiving growing scientific attention and public interest as a changing climate brings new environmental challenges. ACS ES&T Water is uniquely positioned to respond to these challenges by creating an international, multidisciplinary forum for water research, while drawing on the strength of its parent journal Environmental Science & Technology to ensure that its research is among the most cited, most read and most impactful in the field.
ACS ES&T Water鈥檚 multidisciplinary approach will incorporate research from all water-related research fields and welcomes manuscripts that detail public policy and the underlying science used for decision-making. As scientists and leaders work to promote water quality and overcome obstacles to sustainable use and supply, ACS ES&T Water will be an invaluable resource.
鈥淢y vision for ACS ES&T Water is to grow the journal into the predominant outlet for scientific data within the water and environment domains,鈥 says Snyder. 鈥淲ater is essential to our lives and societies, and the journal will explore the intricacies of how this crucial resource can be managed and supported, as countries around the world face urgent challenges.鈥
Snyder has been researching the impacts of emerging water pollutants throughout his career, which began by focusing on the area of environmental toxicology during his graduate work at Michigan State University, where he received a Ph.D. degree. Snyder is presently the executive director of the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute and a professor of civil and environmental engineering at NTU. Snyder also maintains an affiliation with the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona.聽
鈥淧rofessor Snyder has both the expertise and the passion necessary to champion ACS ES&T Water as the premier source for research on water and the environment,鈥 says James Milne, Ph.D., president, ACS Publications Division. 鈥淚 look forward to working with him to develop his vision for this journal further, and to the impact that our growing Environmental Science & Technology portfolio of journals will have on the chemistry community.鈥
ACS ES&T Water will open for manuscript submissions this summer.
