WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2020 â€� To assist with coverage of the 2020 Nobel Prize in chemistry, the American Chemical Öйú365betÖÐÎĹÙÍø (ACS) will issue a statement from ACS President Luis Echegoyen, Ph.D., shortly after the official announcement in Stockholm on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Echegoyen also will be available for interviews shortly after the chemistry prize announcement.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awards the Nobel Prize in chemistry, plans to make the announcement at about 5:45 a.m. EDT on Oct. 7. Echegoyen will be available for 15-minute telephone interviews beginning at 6:15 a.m. and ending at 10:45 a.m. EDT. Journalists are encouraged to schedule an interview in advance by contacting ACS using the contact information below by 5 p.m. EDT on Oct. 5. Scheduling will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Many past winners of the chemistry prize were ACS members and authors of research papers published in ACS� suite of more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Luis Echegoyen is the Robert A. Welch Chair Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas at El Paso and was the director of the National Science Foundation‘s Chemistry Division from 2006 until 2010. He earned his B.S. degree and Ph.D. at the University of Puerto Rico and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has been an active member of ACS since 1973.
