ACS invites families to enjoy hands-on science in Indianapolis

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2023 鈥� Explore the wonders of chemistry with the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网鈥檚 (ACS鈥�) Kids Zone free family science event at the Concord Neighborhood Center in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET. The event is being held in conjunction with ACS鈥� spring 2023 meeting. 聽

Members of ACS local sections and chemistry students will lead hands-on activities with participants, and some stations will offer take-home goodies. The following activities will take place:

Bursting Boba
Practice using a chemistry tool as you turn seaweed extract into colorful spheres that are gel on the outside but squirt when squished.

I spy Photosynthesis
Use a color-changing liquid to recognize when photosynthesis is happening in tiny algae that you can take home.聽

Connect with String Slime
Add seaweed extract to a chemical connector and pull out the resulting long strings of brightly colored slime.

Plants vs. Algae
Use UV light and a microscope to examine similarities and differences between algae and plants.

Self-Inflating Balloons
Discover the secret science of self-inflating balloons as you hear, feel and see the chemistry happening inside a balloon you can keep.聽

Indicator Alligator
Paint a cartoon alligator with a green liquid, then use clear colorless liquids to add bright and surprising pops of color.聽
