News Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2023 鈥 The Publications Division of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring open access publication for corresponding authors at qualifying primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs). 鈥淥vernight, this program makes it possible for researchers at 114 institutions to publish their work in ACS journals, open access, at no additional cost to the researcher or the library,鈥 says James Baldini, vice president of global sales, business operations and analytics at ACS Publications. 鈥淲e are excited to generate awareness of this program so that authors at PUIs can immediately begin enjoying the benefits of sponsored open publication with ACS.鈥

鈥淏y shifting the cost from the authors to the University of Rochester Libraries through a new agreement with ACS Publications, we have empowered our students and faculty to openly share their outstanding research and connect with new and diverse audiences,鈥 says Susan Cardinal, STEM librarian at the University of Rochester.

The program is available to any PUI that doesn鈥檛 offer graduate degrees in the sciences and that subscribes to the journal section of the ACS All Publications Package. This offer lasts the duration of the institution鈥檚 subscription, with no limit on the number of research articles that can be published open access during that time. Corresponding authors can opt in to open access when they sign their publishing agreement with ACS. Should each enrolled institution publish a modest number of articles as a result of this program, it will represent in excess of $1 million in ACS open access content.

PUIs around the globe that subscribe to an ACS All Publications Package through consortia are not automatically included in this agreement. These institutions qualify to participate, but they must contact ACS Publications or the consortia to enroll.

鈥淭he new agreement aligns with the society鈥檚 core value of equity in publishing, and we are proud to extend financial and operational support to a community of researchers and institutions historically overlooked by funders and publishers alike,鈥 says Baldini.

More information about this program and other topics for authors, librarians and administrators can be found on the ACS open science website. ACS customers can contact their local sales representative for more information or to be considered for enrollment in this program.
