FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2023 鈥 The Publications Division of the American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) and the National Science and Technology Council鈥檚 (NSTC)聽Natural Science Library Service Project: Chemistry Division聽are pleased to announce a new 鈥渞ead and publish鈥 agreement supporting open access publishing at a consortium of 25 academic institutions for 2024-26, the first of its kind in Taiwan, and the first for ACS Publications in the Asia-Pacific region.
The new read and publish agreement is sponsored by the NSTC in Taiwan and provides support for authors at consortium-member institutions to publish their research open access in any ACS Publications journal. The supporting investment from the NSTC was essential to the development of this groundbreaking agreement, which will increase the volume of trusted, peer-reviewed research from Taiwan that is openly available for the world to read and cite.听
鈥淭his landmark agreement represents a remarkable achievement in the promotion of open science in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region,鈥 says ACS Publications President James Milne. 鈥淲e鈥檙e proud to partner with NSTC to support authors across the globe with the simple and accessible open access publishing options that read and publish agreements enable.鈥澛
ACS Publications has prioritized the growth and success of read and publish agreements to advance open science and equity in the sciences by providing straightforward and funded pathways for authors to publish open access. The number of academic institutions whose authors are supported by read and publish agreements with ACS Publications has grown from 100 institutions in 2019 to over 1,000 institutions worldwide, as announced in April 2023.听
鈥淲e have been engaged in the conversion with the representatives of ACS to this read and publish program for over two years. It has been an incredible journey with several unexpected turns, and we are thrilled to have reached this milestone in Taiwan's open access history. I want to express my gratitude for ACS Publications鈥 collaboration with the 25 members of our consortium,鈥 says Ching-Wen Chiu, head of NSTC Natural Science Library Service Project: Chemistry Division. 鈥淭he support from the NSTC and the commitment of our members to advancing the principles of open science are the keys to reaching this agreement. We are excited to embark on this transformative endeavor and look forward to its positive impact on the global scientific community.鈥澛
