2024 Latin American Women in Chemistry Awards

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2024 鈥� The American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) and the Latin American Federation of Chemical Associations (FLAQ)鈥痑re pleased to announce the winners of the鈥疞atin American Women in Chemistry Awards. These awards will be presented on Oct. 2 during in Panama City.

Emerging Leader in Chemistry: Grissel Trujillo de Santiago聽
This award honors the accomplishments of an outstanding young woman who is a scientist or entrepreneur in the field of chemistry. Trujillo is a research professor at Tecnol贸gico de Monterrey and chief scientific officer of Forma Foods. She invented, developed and applied chaotic bioprinting, which is a method to form layers and porous materials at scale. This technology is the core of Forma Foods鈥� business, a next-generation meat products company that she co-founded in 2022.

Leadership in Industry: Priscila Castelani鈥�
This award recognizes women in the chemical, pharmaceutical or biotechnological industries for their innovations and contributions to commercial success and social impact. Throughout her career at Indorama Ventures, Castelani has developed innovative products with high agronomic efficacy and reduced toxicity for growers and the environment. Her leadership has resulted in Indorama鈥檚 biotechnology research and development center, as well as the company鈥檚 first product line from a bioprocess.

Leadership in Academia: Coralia Osorio Roa
This award honors a woman with an exceptional record in education, advanced research in chemistry and a strong commitment to gender equity in science. Osorio is the deputy editor of ACS Food Science & Technology and has dedicated her career to advancing the fields of food science and technology, natural product chemistry and chemical ecology. She is a professor in the department of chemistry at the National University of Colombia, Bogot谩, and, so far, has advised 66 students pursuing a degree in chemistry.

The awards are presented by ACS and FLAQ and sponsored by CAS and ACS Publications. The awards aim to recognize significant contributions and outstanding research in chemistry and related fields, thereby enhancing the presence and leadership of women in the scientific development of Latin America.
