ACS announces 2025 Heroes of Chemistry

News Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, June 10, 2025 鈥 The American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) will honor researchers and companies as Heroes of Chemistry for creating and enhancing products that have led to significant advancements in sustainability and improvements in health care. The ceremony to honor these impressive achievements will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in Washington, D.C., during ACS Fall 2025.

鈥淭he 2025 Heroes of Chemistry truly embrace the ACS commitment of improving all lives through the transforming power of chemistry,鈥 says ACS President Dorothy J. Phillips. 鈥淭hese companies are saving lives, treating disease, easing pain, improving battery performance and making the production of electronics more efficient. And it鈥檚 all possible because of collaborative efforts by innovative people who are able to implement chemical solutions.鈥

Scientific teams in industry are being honored for the following achievements:

AbbVie and Merck:听Ubrelvy庐 and Qulipta庐听are calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists approved in more than 50 countries to manage migraine. Both treatments are designed to block CGRP receptors, which play a crucial role in migraine pathophysiology.

Amgen: Lumakras is a first-in-class targeted therapy approved to treat certain patients with advanced KRAS G12C-mutated non-small cell lung cancer and, as part of a combination therapy, KRAS G12C-mutated metastatic colorectal cancer. It works by directly binding to and inactivating a specific gene mutation.

Arkema Inc.: Kynar HSV 900 is a binder used in electric vehicle batteries that enables increased battery energy density and is made without fluorinated surfactants. It has become the global cathode binder material of choice, which has resulted in a reduction in CO2 emissions.

DuPont: Embedded barrier layer (EBL) technology improves the effectiveness of immersion lithography in semiconductor fabrication. Through use of novel EBL materials, patterning performance and process efficiency are improved during production of sophisticated chips used in applications such as advanced computing and artificial intelligence.

Eli Lilly & Co.: Tirzepatide canreduce excess body weight in adults with obesity or who are overweight with a comorbid condition,听improve glycemic control for those with type 2 diabetes, or听treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea for those with obesity.

The 2025 winners will be inducted into the听Heroes of Chemistry听scientific hall of fame, which ACS has sponsored annually since 1996.

Special thanks to the听ACS Board Committee on Corporation Associates, which evaluated the applications and selected the winners.
