Purpose

To support professional development endeavors intended to increase and support the ACS Core Value of Inclusion and Belonging聽within Student Chapters, International Student Chapters, and Graduate Student Organizations.

Description

The goal of this grant is to help promote environments where people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, and experiences thrive within ACS student communities.

Applicants can apply to receive funds for professional development opportunities, such as courses, training, materials, etc.

You may request up to $1,000 USD for your proposal. Funding is limited and you may receive this grant up to two times per calendar year.听

Eligibility

This opportunity is exclusively for faculty advisors聽and student leaders of active聽ACS Student Chapters,听ACS International Student Chapters, and聽ACS Graduate Student Organizations (GSOs).

To be considered active, you must have:

  • At least six members who currently have an ACS student membership with a premium package.
  • For student chapters and international student chapters, you must have chartered, reactivated, or submitted a report within the last three years.

Application Instructions

  1. If you do not have an email for your student community, please create one.
  2. . The account allows you to update your application at any time prior to submission and view your application status afterwards. You'll also be able to use this same account to apply for other ACS Student Community grants.

  5. Enter and upload any required materials. You may save and return to your application until submission.听
  6. Submit your application. Saved drafts are not considered submitted applications. You must click the聽Submit Application聽button. A confirmation email will be sent to confirm your submission within one business day.

Deadline

There is no deadline. Grant applications will be reviewed every two weeks.

Prepare

  • Name of proposal聽
  • Date and location of proposed event
  • Budget
    • Total amount requested
    • Detailed list of expenses
    • Sources of other funding, if any
  • Event description and intended audience
  • Who is involved in planning the event? If the event is being held within a community outside of your chapter/GSO, will any representatives from that community be involved and what will their role be?
  • Who constitutes the non-dominant groups in the area where your proposal is focused? What are some of the barriers preventing their representation and advancement either in chemistry broadly or at your university? How does this proposal help to change that?
  • How will you know if your event has been successful?

Judging Process

Selected proposals will favor applications that propose impactful activities and well-reasoned use of funds.

Notification

Awarded funds will be sent to the university or chapter bank account. The faculty advisor will be responsible for the appropriate disbursement of funds. If funds do not arrive in your account prior to your event, the funds can be used as a reimbursement for out of pocket costs directly associated with the awarded activity.

Reporting Requirements

A final report will be required within 30 days of completing your activity. Information, regarding how to submit the final report, will be provided to those who receive the grant.听
