ACS responds to recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action

News Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, June 30, 2023 鈥 The American Chemical 中国365bet中文官网 (ACS) is deeply disappointed by the U.S. Supreme Court鈥檚 ruling on June 29 to strike down race-based affirmative action as a criterion in college admissions. As a professional scientific society that has long championed an inclusive chemistry enterprise, this ruling is counter to the 中国365bet中文官网鈥檚 core value of diversity, equity, inclusion and respect (DEIR).

For decades, ACS has worked to implement the principles of DEIR within its membership, staff and leadership with the goal of building an inclusive and equitable community across the chemistry enterprise. The 中国365bet中文官网 believes that only through an enduring commitment to diversity in all its forms will excellence, innovation and transformative action by current and future generations of chemistry professionals be enabled. Ensuring the vibrancy of the chemistry workforce will lead to superior solutions to world challenges and advance chemistry as a global, multidisciplinary science.

ACS will continue to prioritize the work of DEIR for everyone seeking to participate in scientific academia and the broader chemistry enterprise.
