Exploring the Role of Quantum Computing in Advancing Drug Discovery聽聽
Researchers are now able to tackle more complex problems and chemical applications using computational and theoretical methods. Quantum computing offers promise to transform how we address difficult questions posed in chemistry due to its higher levels of efficiency and accuracy. Novel algorithms and the increasing ability to perform more complex and lower cost quantum mechanical (QM) calculations due to computer hardware advances have enabled the application of QM based structure-based drug design and the successful emergence of QM/MM and QM based machine learning methods (QML). From aiding in drug design to predicting interactions between proposed drugs and their targets, quantum computing has revolutionized the way chemists are advancing drug development. In celebration of UNESCO鈥檚 International Year of Quantum, this interdisciplinary session aims to bring together researchers from industry, academia, government and other backgrounds, to share their expertise and experience applying quantum computing to fuel advancements in the drug discovery field and propose strategies for addressing existing challenges.聽

Circular Water Economy聽聽
The global demand for freshwater continues to rise due to economic growth and urbanization, while available freshwater supplies are increasingly limited, resulting in heightened water stress worldwide. The current linear water economy mostly operates on a single-use model, where water is used once and then discarded, leading to significant consumptions of energy and supplies to remove contaminants from wastewater, while simultaneously flushing away valuable resources. A circular water economy vision is proposed to selectively recover useful resources in wastewater such as critical minerals, nutrients, organics, and freshwater while removing key contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and microplastics to improve the energy efficiency of the entire water cycle, relieve the supply chain shortage of critical materials, and enable cost-effective fit-for-purpose water reuse.聽
Join us for this one-day symposium, collaborative symposium designed to foster partnerships and drive meaningful connections across multiple dimensions of the circular water economy. This symposium will explore cutting-edge research, development, and translation (RD&T) on the selective separation, detection, and recovery of critical resources/contaminants from various water sources as well as potential challenges and opportunities currently present in the field.聽
